語源
「60s」は、アラビア数字に英語の複数を示す接尾辞「-s」を付けて「sixties（1960–1969ねんだい）」を短く表した現代の表記からきている。
「sixties」は「sixty（60）」に複数形の「-s」が付いたもので、「sixty」は古英語の'sixtig'に由来し、『6（ろく）＋10（じゅう）』の意味をもつ。短縮表記の「60s」はより新しい表記法である。
もともと「sixty」は『6が10個』という数の意味だったが、のちに『1960年代』や『60歳代』を表す語としても使われるようになった。『60s』はその略記である。
