語源
「commoning」は英語に由来し、元はラテン語の「communis」から来ている。'com-'は「一緒に」を、'munis'は「務め・分担（共有）」を意味した。
「common」は古フランス語の「commun」や古英語の「cōmmon」を経て英語化し、そこから行為を表す現在分詞・動名詞として「commoning」が派生した。
当初は「皆に属する（共有される）」という意味だったが、派生語「commoning」は「資源を共同で管理・共有する行為」を指すようになった。
