語源
『corral』はスペイン語の単語『corral』に由来し、語源では「動物用の囲い・庭」を指した。
『corral』は18〜19世紀のアメリカ大陸でのメキシコ・スペイン語の影響から英語に入った（スペイン語『corral』から）。英語では牧場用語として定着した。
当初はスペイン語で「動物用の囲い」を意味していたが、英語ではその意味が保たれ、比喩的に「人や物を集めて囲う」という意味にも広がった。
