語源
「integrate」はラテン語の動詞「integrare」（『integer』から）に由来し、『integer』は「全体・損なわれていない」を意味した。
「integrate」は中世ラテン語の「integrare」や後期ラテン語を経て16世紀に英語に入り、『全体にする／完全にする』という意味で使われ始めた。
当初は「全体にする、元の完全な状態に戻す」という意味だったが、時間とともに「部分を組み合わせて全体にする」や社会的な「集団を平等に参加させる」という意味に広がった。
