語源
'shard'は古英語の'sceard'に由来し、『こわれた一片』『断片』を意味した。
古英語の'sceard'（断片）から中英語を経て現代英語の'n. shard'となり、近年その名詞的意味が比喩的・技術的に拡張されて、データの分割を指す' shard／sharding'が生まれた。
元来は『割れた一片（物理的な断片）』を意味していたが、時間を経て『データの分割片（技術的意味）』という現在の意味に発展した。
