語源
『tenderfoot』はアメリカ英語に由来し、『tender』（柔らかい･弱い）と『foot』（足･歩く人）を結合した語で、19せいきはじめの米国で用いられ始めました。
辺境や口語表現で未経験の野外旅行者を指す語として発展し、やがて文字どおりの意味から一般的な「未熟者」の意味に広がり、のちにスカウトの階級名としても用いられるようになりました。
当初は「足が弱い（足が痛む）人」を指す文字どおりの意味でしたが、時間とともに「未経験の人･新参者」という現在の意味に変化し、スカウトの階級などの特殊用法も生まれました。
