語源
「how-to」は英語に由来し、特に語 'how' と 'to' が組み合わさって「行為のやり方」を示す語になったものです。
『how』は古英語の 'hū'、『to』は古英語の 'tō' に由来します。'how to ...' のような疑問・表現は古くからあり、20世紀にはハイフンを付けた複合語『how-to』が口語で名詞・形容詞として定着しました。
当初は『どのように〜するか』という疑問表現の一部でしたが、次第に『やり方を説明する資料・指南』という意味に発展しました。
