語源
「onset」は中英語に由来し、語幹は 'on' + 'set' の合成で、'on-' は「上・対して」、'set'（古英語 'settan'）は「置く」を意味した。
古英語の動詞要素（on- + settan「置くこと」）から中英語の 'onsetten' や 'on-seten' のような複合形を経て、現代英語の名詞 'onset' になった。
