語源
「jostle」は古フランス語の語『joster』（押す、突く）に由来し、『joust』（馬上試合）と関連があり、最終的にはラテン語の『juxta』（近く）に繋がる。
『joster』（古フランス語）から中英語の『jostlen』に変化し、最終的に現代英語の『jostle』になった。
元々は「近づく、接触する（馬上の衝突などを含む）」という意味だったが、次第に「乱暴に押す、押しのける」「位置を勝ち取ろうと争う」という現在の意味に変化した。
