語源
「recidivist」はラテン語の『recidivus』に由来し、『re-』は「後ろへ／再び」、語根『cadere（落ちる）』は「落ちる」を意味しました。
『recidivus』は19世紀にフランス語の『récidiviste』となり、そこから英語の『recidivist』として採用されました。
当初は「戻ること／再発すること」を意味しましたが、時間とともに「再犯（常習的に犯罪を繰り返す人）」の意味で使われるようになりました。
