語源
「savant」はフランス語の単語「savant」から来ており、動詞「savoir」は「知る」を意味した（ラテン語語根に由来）。
「savant」は古フランス語（「savoir」の現在分詞）に由来し、18世紀に英語に取り入れられた。さらに遡るとラテン語の'sapere'（«知る／賢い»）に行き着く。
