語源
「apprehension」はラテン語の「apprehendere」に由来し、「ad-」は「～へ」、「prehendere」は「つかむ」を意味しました。
中世にかけては古フランス語の「aprehension」や中英語の「apprehencioun」を経て、現代英語の「apprehension」になりました。
当初は「つかむこと」＝「逮捕・捕捉」を意味しましたが、次第に「理解」を表すようになり、さらに「不安・心配」という意味も発達しました。
